In my 17 years in this business, the biggest shift has been the addition of software. A modern smart helmet is a hardware product that is deeply reliant on its firmware (the software on the helmet itself) and often a companion mobile app. At SPIRIT, we have built a robust competency in this area to be a true end-to-end partner. We have an in-house team of firmware developers who write the code that controls the helmet’s lights, sensors, and Bluetooth connections. For our OEM partners who are developing their own mobile app, we provide a comprehensive Software Development Kit (SDK) and dedicated technical support. This allows their app developers to easily "talk" to our hardware to control settings, update firmware, and enable features like crash detection alerts. My job has evolved to ensuring that our physical product and our digital handshake are both engineered to the highest standard, making the integration process smooth and successful for our partners.
