In my experience, the retention system—the straps, buckles, and fit system—is the most underappreciated component of a safety helmet. A helmet with the world's best shell and liner is useless if it falls off a fraction of a second before impact. The retention system is what ensures the helmet is in the right place at the right time. That’s why at SPIRIT, we treat its design with the same seriousness as we do impact absorption. We know that a system must be both secure and comfortable. If it’s uncomfortable, users will wear it too loosely, compromising its effectiveness. We design our harnesses to sit flat, without chafing. We engineer our adjustment systems to provide a full, 360-degree grip on the head. We test our straps and buckles to ensure they far exceed the strength requirements of any global standard. I have always believed that a great retention system is a core safety feature, and it’s a critical part of every safety helmet we make.
